Husqvarna Automower Buying Guide

Not sure which Husqvarna Automower is right for your garden? Lawn size is an important starting point, but slopes, narrow passages, obstacles, mowing zones and installation method can all influence which robotic mower will work best.

Where To Start

Choosing an Automower is about more than lawn size

Maximum mowing capacity gives you a useful starting point, but two gardens of the same size can require very different robotic mowers. The shape and complexity of the lawn can be just as important as its total area.

Total lawn area How much grass does the mower actually need to maintain?
Garden layout Consider narrow passages, separate areas and awkward sections.
Slopes Steeper gardens may need a model with greater slope capability.
Boundary system Decide whether physical boundary wire or a compatible wire-free installation is most appropriate.
Features App control, mowing zones, object detection and EdgeCut can make a difference in more demanding gardens.
Lawn Size

Start with the size of your lawn

Choose a mower with enough capacity for the lawn you have rather than simply selecting the smallest machine that reaches the stated area. More complicated gardens can place greater demands on the mower.

01

Up to 1,000m²

Medium-sized domestic gardens can benefit from a compact mower with good navigation and smart control. The 410XE NERA also adds EdgeCut for customers who want to reduce manual trimming around lawn edges.

02

1,000–2,500m²

Larger domestic lawns need greater mowing capacity. Models such as the 315 Mark II, 415X and 320 NERA cover different needs within this area depending on garden complexity and the features required.

03

Large Gardens

For extensive lawns and more demanding layouts, higher-capacity machines such as the 430X NERA and 450X provide the performance needed to maintain considerably larger mowing areas.

Garden Layout

What if your garden is more complicated?

Lawn area alone doesn't tell the whole story. Trees, pathways, narrow passages, slopes and separate mowing areas can all make a garden more demanding for a robotic mower.

More advanced Automower models offer features designed to improve navigation and give you greater control over how different parts of the garden are maintained.

If your lawn has an unusual layout, it is worth discussing the installation before choosing a model.

A more advanced model may help if your garden has:

  • Multiple narrow passages
  • Several connected lawn areas
  • Significant slopes
  • Trees and permanent obstacles
  • Areas that need to be excluded temporarily
  • A layout likely to change over time
Installation Options

Boundary wire or wire-free mowing?

Both approaches can provide excellent results. The best choice depends on the mower, the garden and how much flexibility you want from the installation.

Physical Boundary Wire

A traditional Automower installation uses a physical boundary wire to define the mowing area.

  • Proven and reliable installation method
  • Suitable for a wide range of gardens
  • Available across many Automower models
  • Ideal where the lawn layout is unlikely to change regularly

Wire-Free / EPOS

Selected compatible NERA models can use Husqvarna technology to create virtual boundaries instead of relying solely on a physical perimeter wire.

  • Virtual mowing boundaries
  • Greater flexibility when layouts change
  • Work areas can be configured digitally
  • Compatible equipment and a suitable installation are required
Finishing The Lawn

What is Husqvarna EdgeCut?

EdgeCut is designed to reduce the amount of grass left uncut around the edge of the lawn, helping minimise the need to finish the job manually with a trimmer.

It can be particularly useful where neat lawn edges are a priority and you want the robotic mower to handle as much of the regular maintenance as possible.

Looking for EdgeCut?

The Husqvarna Automower 410XE NERA in our current range features EdgeCut technology and is designed for medium-sized gardens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Husqvarna Automower FAQs

What size Husqvarna Automower do I need?

Start with the total area of grass that needs to be maintained, then consider the complexity of the garden. Slopes, narrow passages, obstacles and separate areas can influence which model is most suitable.

Does a Husqvarna Automower need a boundary wire?

Many Automower installations use a traditional physical boundary wire. Selected compatible NERA models can also support virtual boundaries with the appropriate Husqvarna equipment and a suitable installation.

What is a NERA Automower?

NERA models are part of Husqvarna's newer Automower platform and offer flexible installation options on compatible machines, including support for virtual-boundary systems when used with the required equipment.

Can an Automower handle slopes?

Yes, but slope capability varies between models and can also depend on where the slope occurs within the installation. If your garden is particularly steep, speak to our team before selecting a machine.

Can an Automower manage a complicated garden?

Yes. More advanced models are designed to manage features such as narrow passages, obstacles, multiple mowing areas and changes in level. The layout of the garden should be considered alongside its total size.

What does EdgeCut do?

EdgeCut is designed to mow closer to the lawn edge, reducing the amount of manual trimming required after the mower has finished.

Do you offer Husqvarna Automower installation?

Yes. Local Automower installation is available from £250. Installation requirements and pricing can vary depending on the garden and mower, so please contact us to discuss your property.

Are your clearance Automowers available permanently?

No. Clearance stock is limited and individual models may be removed once the remaining machines have sold.
